Creative Routines of the World's Greatest
Thinkers in History
I recently read an intriguing blog post on trends in routine among some the world's greatest thinker's based on information produced by RJ Andrews at InfoWeTrust and Mason Currey's book Daily Rituals. According to the article "8 Daily Habits You Should Definitely Steal from History's Greatest Creatives," written by Hanna Brooks Olsen, published April 9, 2014 at creativelive blog, there are several common trends among the greatest thinker in history, some of which may surprise you.
For instance, it appears that napping has creative benefits and was a part of many creative geniuses’, such as Honoré de Balzac and Charles Darwin’s daily routine – napping can be a much “better for productivity than trying to soldier through a... sleepy afternoon”. As well sharing your work, socializing with peers, reading for pleasure, exercising, having a "master" plan, taking breaks, and winding down at the end of the day, all seem to be common among creative geniuses such as Beethoven, Benjamin Franklin, Auden, and Descartes. Above is a chart on the daily routines of many of the greatest creative thinker the world has ever seen from infowetrust.com.
