Overwhelmed By the Thought of Your Housework and Organization: Ideas to Get Started Tackling Clutter and Chaos in Your Space

Overwhelmed By the Thought of Your Housework and Organization:
Ideas to Get Started Tackling Clutter and Chaos in Your Space

I am not alone...Finally; I have discovered there are many others who, too, are terrified by housework. Not so much the act of sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and organizing, but by trying to decide exactly where to begin the process. According to The Clean Home: Step-by-Step Guide to Keep Your Home Clean, Organized and Clutter Free, by ADISH Books, “Many people actually feel overwhelmed and defeated around the concept of de-cluttering their homes” (ADISH Books, 2013, p. 57)

Essentially, creativity can make all the difference in how you feel about your housework and can also get you in the mindset to tackle the various tasks associated with being a wife and running a household. The writers at ADISH Books also suggest a couple of ways to “get going” and (sounds pretty lame to me, but I’m a bit of a cynic) incorporate fun into cleaning and organizational tasks. For instance, in The Clean Home: Step-by-Step Guide to Keep Your Home Clean, Organized and Clutter Free, “5 Minute to De-Clutter” suggests “baby steps can definitely make a big step” (ADISH Books, 2013, p. 57). Although not much is likely to be accomplished in such brevity, I think it may help reduce the anxiety I tend to feel when take a “big picture” approach to housework that leads to getting absolutely nothing accomplished. The writers at ADISH books also suggest the use of imagination in reducing clutter in your home through visualizing “de-cluttering objects that are difficult to remove”, I’m assuming to reduce the stress associated with the task at hand (ADISH Books, 2013, p. 59). Finally, the Four-Box Method was suggested when trying to re-establish order in a mass of residential chaos. “With this creative technique, you can label the four boxes as ‘trash’, ‘keep’, ‘give away’ and ‘relocate’ (ADISH Books, 2013, p. 59),” helping you to establish some type of system or “method to your madness” when the disorder seems overwhelming.
This week I made a goal to try to slowly bring order to my disheveled basement, that has become chaotic due to the lack of space and the number of people in our household (and pure, unadulterated laziness, if we are to be honest). So bright and early Tuesday morning, my husband, Junior and my bestie/brother-from-another-mother, “B” and I began to tackle the heaps of litter, laundry, and laughs. It really is amazing how much can get accomplished when we take on the really nasty challenges as a team!!! Thank you boys, I love you both more than words can say!!!
