A Picture of Greed at it's Finest: America's "BLACK FRIDAY"

A Picture of Greed at it's Finest: America's "BLACK FRIDAY"
---Lexy Hurt,  Lexy Lou Designs Shoppe at Etsy

The Friday after Thanksgiving, November 28th, this year, termed in the U.S. as "Black Friday" seems to be our commercialized approach (in our sadly, materialistic society) to kick off off to the Holiday "shopping season", with early-bird special available at every retailer across America, ready, willing, and (hopefully??) able to provide to the masses, creating  mobs of angry (& freakishly) agressive soccer moms willing to knock one another down over saving a quarter, or frugal fathers on a

mission to find a DEAL that he is willing to snatch "Holiday Barbie" directly from the shopping cart of that sweet, blue-hair, Mrs. Oh-I-Can't-Remember-Her-Name-but-She doles out the "Good Candy" on Halloween, despite a fixed income, and always buys wrapping paper that is much higher-priced than Wal-Mart's to help fund the local high school band take a trip-but will not tolerate this "Seasonal Injustice" from anyone, and decidely gives him a swift lash with her cane as she whizzes past him on her motorized scooter. Nothing like Happy Holidays like acts of violence, does it? Humanity (or possibly a shaky economy???) seems to  require filling the cherry-red stockings that adorn every mantel in America, with acts of kindness and generousity bestowed upon our family and friends to celebrate a season of love, family and giving, honoring the birth of the Christ child; an occassion that is fueled by the "keeping up with the Jone's" syndrome necessary to complete in our American sub-culture. There is sometime seriously wrong with this picture isn't there?

I have such a cynical and sarcastic perspective, don't I?? Happy Holidays... During this season, try to take just a moment to reflect on the greed and commercialism that takes place, while also remembering exactly what you are celebrating as you sit down with your stale-& store bought fruit cake and the brightly lit evergreen tree that occupies your living room (also creating a fire-hazard for your family)...Nothing says Happy New Years like a homeless shelter!!!
